Looking out the window from our room at an avenue of lime trees stretching out into the distance. It's hard to believe that Hartwell House is so near a town as the grounds are completely peaceful and it is a real wildlife haven. It is a treat to stay in such a beautiful old building. The spa had very few people in it so had the pool to myself in the morning.
There is a certain sense of faded grandeur. Our room was via a strange backstairs with rather tired carpet and wallpaper. Although the reception staff are very friendly, elsewhere staffing was somewhat stiff, which did not make it as welcoming as it could be. We were escorted to our room in complete silence and not shown or told where we would find the bar/restaurant/spa etc.

Being a guest and being denied the main restaurant having to eat in a cold bar

The parking is Too Far from the house. It could be a problem if it snows.

Charming staff, Brilliant spa - especially the pool - lovely late night chess games in the library with huge brandies!
Service at breakfast was disastrous! 4 waiting staff, none of whom seemed to know what they were doing. It took 20 minutes and three requests to get a coffee - and those around us were similarly suffering. Outrageous at such an expensive hotel. I didn't have dinner, but if this is the standard of service, I would rather not.
-
A beautiful gem of a country house place hidden in Ayesbury Vale. The height of elegance and comfort.

Service was perfect food was wonderful and the location was absolutely beautiful. We could not improve on it! Thank you

The location is superb. It could just be 'miles from anywhere', and that is relaxing. The comfort and opulence of your lounges make one feel at home! The staff are excellent with a customer focused attitude. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the food is excellent too. The spa environment is unusual but relaxing. Hasn't changed for years - and that IS unusual.
The only slightly uncomfortable aspect was the pushing of dinner guests together, unnecessary.
-
Pure luxury in peaceful surroundings
Spa located some distance from main house - but we did not use it.

The setting is glorious and so are the staff. We enjoyed a lovely experience and would not hesitate to recommend Hartwell House & Spa.
Carpark.

The excellent food. The wonderful staff who looked after us at all times.
The poolside had too many women sitting around it for him to be comfortable taking a swim!
