Reviews of Hartwell House & Spa
I recently had a memorable stay at a stunning hotel that made my birthday celebration truly special. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by Paul at the gate, we were treated like royalty. The staff, particularly Charlotte and the events team, went above and beyond to ensure we had an amazing experience. The octagon room where we had our surprise birthday lunch was exquisite, and my mom's stay in the queens room with a four-poster bed was the icing on the cake. The breakfast provided was first-class, with a wide range of choices for both myself and my vegetarian partner. The spa facilities were also highly recommended, offering top-notch quality.
Looking out the window from our room at an avenue of lime trees stretching out into the distance. It's hard to believe that Hartwell House is so near a town as the grounds are completely peaceful and it is a real wildlife haven. It is a treat to stay in such a beautiful old building. The spa had very few people in it so had the pool to myself in the morning.
There is a certain sense of faded grandeur. Our room was via a strange backstairs with rather tired carpet and wallpaper. Although the reception staff are very friendly, elsewhere staffing was somewhat stiff, which did not make it as welcoming as it could be. We were escorted to our room in complete silence and not shown or told where we would find the bar/restaurant/spa etc.
Excellent breakfast with a variety of options for vegetarians. Staff helpful, courteous, and pleasant. Superb spa facilities and high-quality massage. Magnificent grounds and house. Sumptuous private entertaining rooms available for parties and tea.
Beautiful hotel in lovely grounds, very friendly and helpful staff, lovely foods.
Being a guest and being denied the main restaurant having to eat in a cold bar
The service was excellent and the staff were very attentive. We were greeted at the door and enjoyed pre-lunch drinks and canapés in a cozy drawing room. The food at the restaurant was delicious, especially the perfectly cooked beef. The price for a Sunday lunch was very reasonable.
The changing rooms in the spa could use some refurbishment. While the spa itself was quiet and relaxing, the outdated facilities in the changing rooms were a bit of a letdown.
the best part is the house its self , all the room are amasing , the afternoon tea was wonderful.
Had a lovely xmas break here. The staff were incredible, so attentive and friendly. The food was delicious, especially the 7-course New Year's Eve meal. The hotel grounds were extensive and great for walks. The room was comfortable and spacious.
The spa was not very accessible for disabled visitors. The changing rooms were difficult to navigate with a wheelchair, and there were no proper means of support for getting into the pool or other facilities.
the luxury of the grand old house
Stunning, historic property with a charming, unique ambiance. The rooms were excellently furnished, and our room had a lovely view. The restaurant offered excellent dinner options, and the food was top-notch. Despite a few minor drawbacks, overall I highly recommend this hotel.
consistently ggod service
We had an absolutely stunning weekend at this hotel. It felt like stepping into a Jane Austen novel. The staff were aware of our special plans and went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. They upgraded our room and gave us a late checkout without any additional charges. The rooms were unique, opulent, and the surroundings were picturesque. The hotel will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we can't wait to come back.
The Building and its history.
The parking is Too Far from the house. It could be a problem if it snows.
A wonderful example of high quality comfort and service. Excellent location with plenty to visit in the surrounding area. Beautiful room with a little kitchen and walk-in wardrobe. Great spa pool, stunning sitting rooms and dining room. Lovely grounds to wander around. Staff very attentive and polite.
Nothing to be said.
Charming staff, Brilliant spa - especially the pool - lovely late night chess games in the library with huge brandies!
Service at breakfast was disastrous! 4 waiting staff, none of whom seemed to know what they were doing. It took 20 minutes and three requests to get a coffee - and those around us were similarly suffering. Outrageous at such an expensive hotel. I didn't have dinner, but if this is the standard of service, I would rather not.
